Dance/Movement Therapy

Dance/movement therapy is the psychotherapeutic use of movement that enriches the emotional, social, cognitive, and physical integration of the individual.  Dance/movement therapy allows the client and counselor to interact, learn, heal, process, etc. without relying solely on words.

Paying attention to and purposely using elements of the breath, movement, posture, personal movement style, nonverbal body expressions, and muscle tension provides greater awareness into how we cope with change, both individually and in relationship with others.

Dance/movement therapy techniques can help to provide more support when our typical coping patterns aren’t working or we feel overwhelmed.  This approach is just one of the many ways we can work together to address your life changes, depending on what works for you.

For more information on the profession of dance/movement therapy, see the American Dance Therapy Association webpage.
